For the sports enthusiasts out there, you have heard about FGCU's amazing run in the NCAA tournament which unfortunately came to an end this past week. Lead by 2nd year coach, Andy Enfield, the Eagles soared into the Sweet Sixteen as the first number 15 seed to do so in NCAA history. Now every year, the tourney has Cinderella teams but FGCU is different. Compiled of Division 2 or lower type athletes, (Although FGCU is in Division 1), The Eagles have shown that they are capable of playing with the best in Division 1. A member of Florida's 12 state university campuses, FGCU is beginning to make a name for themselves. Similar to the Los Angeles Clippers' nickname, "Lob City," the Eagles have been dubbed, "Dunk City," by the mass media for their lightening slams against power house Georgetown, and San Diego State seen below.
But that wasn't the only reason the Eagles have been making headlines. Head Coach, Andy Enfield's ex-super model wife has been turning heads as well. But I must say, the talk about her is somewhat irritating. Yes she is a beautiful woman but it sort of takes away from the true magic in that of the team's run through the tourney. I guess that is just how the mass media incorporates entertainment into any story. But anyways, this team has put FGCU on the map and I think the head coach will have a much easier time recruiting, come this off season.

ReplyDeleteEven though the focus should be basketball, media will somehow turn the focus to someone else. Why focus on the ex super model wife? I remember a college football star had a pretty girlfriend and the media made the headline story about his pretty girlfriend. As a result, now that girl is a model and was featured on a dive/swim reality show. I guess it shows what people are really interested in.
